Who provides massage therapy at Webster Family Chiropractic & Wellness Center?
Massage therapy is provided by Jennifer Mendralla, L.M.T., who brings more than two decades of experience in massage therapy and bodywork to our office. Her extensive training allows her to personalize each session based on the patient's individual needs, goals, preferred depth of pressure, and comfort level.
What types of massage therapy do you offer in Phoenix, AZ?
We offer a wide variety of massage therapy techniques and modalities. Depending on your needs, a session may incorporate Swedish or relaxation massage, deep tissue massage, therapeutic massage, trigger point work, prenatal massage, sports massage, Structural Integration, Reflexology, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Reiki, or other bodywork techniques within Jennifer's training and experience. Massage therapy may also be incorporated into care following an auto accident or other personal injury when appropriate.
What is therapeutic massage?
Therapeutic massage is a more focused approach for patients who have specific areas of muscle tension, tightness, soreness, or discomfort. Jennifer can concentrate on the areas that need the most attention and adjust the techniques and pressure used throughout the session. Therapeutic massage may include several different techniques depending on the patient's individual needs.
Do you offer deep tissue and trigger point massage?
Yes. Deep tissue and trigger point techniques may be used for patients who need more focused work on tight or tender muscles. Trigger point work focuses on specific areas of muscular tension, while deep tissue techniques may be used to address deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Deeper pressure is not always the most effective approach for every patient; therefore, pressure is adjusted to the individual patient's comfort level and preference.
How can massage therapy help with stress and muscle tension?
Massage therapy can encourage relaxation and help reduce muscle tension that often builds up in the neck, shoulders, back, and other areas. Many patients use massage as part of a regular wellness or self-care routine, while others schedule massage when stress, activity, posture, or daily demands leave them feeling particularly tight or sore.
Is massage therapy helpful for back, neck, and shoulder discomfort?
Massage therapy may help ease muscular tightness and tension associated with back, neck, and shoulder discomfort. Jennifer can focus the session on specific areas of concern and modify the approach based on what feels effective and comfortable. If symptoms suggest a condition that requires evaluation beyond the scope of massage therapy, additional health care evaluation may be recommended.
Do you offer prenatal massage in Phoenix?
Yes. Jennifer has training in prenatal massage and can modify positioning, pressure, and massage techniques to accommodate the changing needs of pregnancy. Prenatal massage may help promote relaxation and address common areas of muscular tension and pregnancy-related discomfort, including the back, hips, shoulders, and legs. Massage is individualized, and patients with pregnancy complications or other concerns may be asked to consult their prenatal health care provider before massage.
Can massage therapy be part of my care after a car accident?
Yes, when massage therapy is appropriate for your condition and treatment plan. Auto accidents can be followed by muscle soreness, tightness, guarding, and soft-tissue discomfort. Massage therapy can be used to address muscular tension and support comfortable movement. At Webster Family Chiropractic & Wellness Center, massage therapy may also be coordinated with chiropractic care and other services as part of an individualized plan of care.
Do you offer sports massage for athletes and active adults?
Yes. Jennifer's training includes Sports Massage and Russian Sports Massage. A patient's massage session can be tailored for athletes, active adults, weekend athletes, and patients dealing with the physical demands of exercise or repetitive activity. Sports-oriented massage may focus on particular muscle groups, areas of tightness, post-activity soreness, mobility, and recovery needs.
Can massage therapy help after exercise or physical activity?
Massage therapy can be useful after exercise or physical activity when muscles feel tight, fatigued, or sore. The session can focus on the areas most affected by your activity and may incorporate relaxation, therapeutic, sports, or other techniques and modalities based on your needs and goals.
Can massage therapy be combined with chiropractic care?
Yes. Many patients choose to receive massage therapy alongside chiropractic care. Massage therapy focuses primarily on muscles and soft tissues, while chiropractic care may address joint function, mobility, and other neuromusculoskeletal concerns. When appropriate, the services can be coordinated so that each complements the patient's overall plan of care.
Is massage therapy only for pain relief?
No. Patients also choose massage therapy for relaxation, stress reduction, muscle recovery, general wellness, and body awareness. You do not need to be in pain to schedule a massage session. The purpose and focus of your massage can be adjusted to the intention of your session.
How often should I get massage therapy?
There is no single schedule that is right for everyone. How often you receive massage depends on your goals, activity level, areas of tension, response to care, and whether massage is being used for relaxation, wellness, or as part of a broader treatment plan. Some patients schedule occasional sessions, while others find that more regular massage works better for their needs.
What should I expect during a massage therapy appointment?
Before the session, Jennifer will take time to understand your concerns, goals, areas you would like addressed, and any relevant health information. You can discuss pressure preferences, areas to avoid, positioning, and your comfort level. The massage is then tailored to those needs. Communication is encouraged throughout the session, and you can request changes to pressure or technique at any time.
How do I know if massage therapy is right for me?
Massage therapy may be a good option if you are looking for relaxation or are experiencing muscle tension, tightness, stiffness, soreness, or activity-related discomfort. Because massage is not appropriate for every condition, Jennifer will consider relevant health information and any potential contraindications. She can make accommodations and modifications based on your medical conditions or injuries. When symptoms or circumstances require care outside the scope of massage therapy, evaluation by an appropriate health care professional may be recommended.
Do I have to be a chiropractic patient to schedule a massage?
No. You do not need to be a chiropractic patient of Dr. Webster to receive massage therapy at Webster Family Chiropractic & Wellness Center. Massage appointments are available as a stand-alone service, so you are welcome to schedule directly with Jennifer even if you do not receive chiropractic care in our office. For massage patients who do receive chiropractic care, adjustments and acupuncture may also be incorporated into or coordinated with their overall plan of care if interested.
